Trausteinera globosa

Trausteinera globosa is an orchid which has tubers which are elongated and unsegmented ,with extremely short adventive roots . Trausteinera globosa leaves are evenly distributed on the erect ,sparsely foliaged ,10 -20 in/25 -50 cm-tall stalk. The largest and fully developed bottom leaves are elongated and laneceolate.

The function of an inflorescence is served by a dense, multi-flowered spike,at first pyramidal -round (hence the english name round headed and the Latin name ''globosa ''),and later almost cylindrical .Tiny ,dirty pink ,red and purple or ,rarely, white flowers are crowded in the infloresce . Trausteinera globosa tepals are arranged in a helmet at the beginning of the flowering season ,but later stand more apart .The lip has three deeply divided lobes and is only 0.2 -0.3 in/5-8 mm long .It is adorned with delicate dark purple dots .Trausteinera globosa is mostly found on damp infertile mountain meadows with alkaline soils and is known to grow altitudes up to 8,200 ft /2,500 m . The orchid blooms between May and August .Trausteinera globosa is widespread in southern and Central Europe ,as well as southwestern Asia.
