Oncidium ornithorhynchum

Oncidium ornithorhynchum

The overall small proportions of the Oncidium species incresae its collecting value ,except that some people may find the flower's scent rather unpleasant . The pseudobulbs are egg-shaped,up to 2.8 in /7 cm tall ,with two leaves in the apex . Several flower spikes jointly form the base of the pseudobulbs. They are richly branched ,up to 16 in /40 cm long and literally covered with a profusion of somewhat unusual -colored ,pink little flowers with yellow centers . This rather cryophilic species should be grown either in flowerpots or epiphytically and provide with a rest period after the flowers fade. It blooms in the fall and winter and comes from Mexico ,Guatemala,Salvador and Costa Rica.
