epidendrunm-radicans

A true sympol of entire genus;it would be hard to find an orchid lover who would not recognize its typical orange -to -dark -red umbels of flowers! They do not change their shape much in the course of time ,even though the flowers open one by one in long intervals. The inflorescene remains on the plant for up to several months, which is why the plants are sometimes grown for cut flowers . E. radicans tends to be mistaken for (or associated with) a very similar and hardly distinguishable species E. ibaguense. Its reed -like ascending shoots reach lengths of up to 6.5 in /2 m and their entire surface is gradually covered with a multitude of aerial roots (hence the Latin name radicans = rooting). The species has an exceptionally high ability to regenerate and ,in the tropics ,it even thrives on regularly mowed urban lawns! Cultivation is the same as that of E. pseudepidendrum.E. radicans blooms irregularly in the coarse of the all year and grows in many forms all over of tropical America.
