epidendrum-ciliare

The genus Epidendrum includes a huge number of different species ,whose affiliation with the genus is oftern highly uncertain. The cultivation value of the plants that tend to be quite robust is not very high -the flowers are long -live but usually small . The typically umbellate inflorescence of the small -flowered species are quite impressive . E. ciliare is classified as a Hormidium or Auliza orchid ,while its flat pseudobulbs resemble those of Cattleya orchids. The inflorescence consists of 3-7 ''spider '' flowers that sometimes reach lengths of 4 in /10 cm . The highlights of the yellow -and -white flowers with a tinge of green are their three-lobed lips; the middle part of each lip is extended to resemble a tongue and the lateral protuberances are impressively fimbriated. The plant blooms between November and February and its habitat includes the entire tropical area of Latin America, including Mexico and Brazil.
